Embossing

Embossing is a graphic process which uses a magnesium, copper or brass die to reshape the paper fibers into the desired image. The result of raising (embossing) or lowering (debossing) an image in the surface of a paper always creates an appealing sense of depth and dimension. Blind embossing simply bumps up the paper fiber without any printed or foil stamped color. When the paper features a textured or patterned finish this process also creates the element of contrast.

Embossing dies can be precisely formed an crafted to simulate the inherent
qualities of practically any subject. Combined with a printed image of the subject,
its dimensional effect is even more compelling. Embossing dies can be sculptured
single or multi-leveled. Various depths can be achieved, depending on the effect
desired and the ability of the paper to accept the pressure. In general, bold lines
or bold type styles are best for embossing.
